23rd Annual General Meeting of the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA)

The 23rd Annual General Meeting of the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) will take place on Saturday, 3rd April, 2004 in The Central Hotel, The Diamond, Donegal Town. This is open to NALA members only*

NALA members input on the day
As a member of NALA we encourage you to come to the day to:
1. take part in the vote for new members of the Board of Directors;
2. put forward resolutions and/or amendments to the Constitution for discussion on the day and participate in and listen to the debate around motions;
3. hear about the work carried out by NALA;
4. meet other members of NALA;
5. get information about the current work of NALA as staff are available throughout the day to answer your questions.

Vacancies on the NALA Board of Directors
This year the following vacancies occur on the Board of Directors:
1. Positions of Hon. Secretary,
2. Hon. Treasurer
3. two Ordinary Member places.

If you would like to nominate anyone to these positions please use nomination forms enclosed. As it is our practice to include photographs of candidates on ballot papers, you should include two passport size photographs for each candidate nominated. Please make sure that each photograph is signed on the back by the candidate.

Please note the following points:
1. only members of NALA can be elected to the Board of Directors;
2. those going forward for election must be nominated and seconded by two members of NALA;
3. Nominations must reach the NALA office not later than Friday, 23rd January, 2004.

Amendments to the Constitution & Resolutions
If you wish to put forward an Amendment to the NALA Constitution or propose a Resolution these must reach us not later than Friday, 23rd January, 2004. Forms are available on request to literacy@nala.ie or write to NALA, 76 Lower Gardiner Street, Dublin 1.

Resolutions must be proposed and seconded by two members of NALA and at least one of the members must be present at the meeting to make the formal proposal.

A full list of Amendments and Resolutions received will be sent to all members together with a list of candidates. The Annual Report and further information will follow nearer the date.

* Membership of NALA
Please note that membership of NALA is on an annual basis from 1st January to 31st December each year. In order to vote at the AGM, go forward for election or send in resolutions and/or amendments, you must be a current member of NALA. 4.2 of the NALA Constitution states that “Only those members of NALA whose names appear on the register of current members one month prior to the day of a general meeting may vote in that general meeting.”

Group/Corporate membership entitles an organisation to send two voting delegates to the meeting. The names of these two delegates must be filled in on the booking form enclosed and returned to the NALA Office not later than Friday, 19th March, 2004
