1. The Wheel's 3rd Social Partnership Reference Group Meeting.

14th January 2004 - Dublin
Registration will be at 10am the meeting will start at 10.30 and go on until 1pm when sandwiches will be served.

MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD WHERE IT MATTERS - Social Partnership is the national mechanism which sets the economic and social agenda for the country. The Wheel is a member of Social Partnership and is committed to be a channel for the policies and concerns that matter to you.

2. New Fundraisers Network

20th January 2004 - Dublin
Registration will be at 2pm the meeting will start at 2.30 and will finish at 4.30

The Wheel is hosting an exploratory meeting to establish a Fundraisers Network for anyone whose job involves an element of fundraising.

There will be short presentations from Bryan Walliker, Chairperson of Institute of Fundraising Northern Ireland and Neil Irwin, Information Officer (Funding Advice) with Northern Irish Council for Voluntary Action (NICVA).

3. Supporting Voluntary Activity Conference 2004
A National Conference for all groups and individuals interested in developing the relationship between the Community and Voluntary Sector and the State

22nd January 2004 - Dublin.
Registration will be at 9.30am, the conference will start at 10am and continue until 4.45

This national conference, which is taking place as part of the implementation process of the White Paper, will provide the opportunity for an analysis of how the relationship between the State and the Community and Voluntary Sector operates. Feedback will also be sought from attendees regarding the next steps in developing this relationship.

This is a very important event for all those interested in developing the relationship between the Community and Voluntary Sector and the State.

The agenda includes:

  • A keynote address by Minister of State, Noel Ahern, TD.
  • Presentations by both the Community and Voluntary and Statutory members of the Implementation and Advisory Group tasked with the implementation of the White Paper on Supporting Voluntary Activity.
  • The presentation of an independently commissioned research paper into the White Paper’s implementation by social researcher Brian Harvey.
  • An analysis by the Community and Voluntary Sector members of the Implementation and Advisory Group as to the range of possible future options for developing the relationship.- An opportunity for all participants to contribute to the future direction of the relationship between the Community and Voluntary and Statutory Sectors via small workshops, Q&A sessions and an open panel discussion with all relevant parties – as these interactive sessions will take up the majority of the day there will be ample opportunity for contributing.
  • An opportunity to network and have discussions with your peers.

The closing date for registrations is Thursday the 15th January 2004. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. As space is limited, each organisation is requested to try to limit the number of delegates it sends.

Registration fee: €30 per person (which will include lunch), payable to Direction @ JWT Limited. Bursaries are available.

Regional Information Seminars on proposed reform of Charity Legislation

Shortly before Christmas, the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs published the long awaited Consultation Paper on "Establishing a Modern Statutory Framework for Charities". A copy of the document can be downloaded from the Department's website www.pobail.ie.

This Consultation Paper is the building block of a very important piece of legislation affecting Community and Voluntary groups across the sector and The Wheel strongly urges you to circulate it to your Boards, Management Committees and members.

There is a consultation period during which all affected parties are encouraged to make submissions directly to the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs in response to the Paper (see www.pobail.ie for more details).

A series of regional information seminars on the Consultation Paper will be held during February 2004. Under the auspices of the Implementation and Advisory Group of the White Paper on Supporting Voluntary Activity and co-ordinated by The Wheel and The Irish Charities Tax Research Ltd., these seminars will be taking place in the following locations:

Kilkenny - 17th February*

Cork - 18th February*

Galway - 24th February*

Sligo - 25th February*

Dundalk - 26th February*

Dublin - 2nd March*
