For those of you who don’t already know about The Wheel, just some facts:

  • We were founded by over 200 organisations in late 1999 to support those who support others through their Community and Voluntary efforts
  • Our mission, then and now, is to connect and support Community and Voluntary organisations and individuals - some 8,000 organisations and 3,000 individuals receive information from us
  • We campaign/advocate for Community and Voluntary activity wherever and whenever the opportunity arises whether in our Social Partnership role or other agenda setting arena

For more information contact our web-site: www.wheel.ie

We, in The Wheel, are particularly excited about this Spring Seeding Meeting 2004 since it upholds our tradition of empowering Community and Voluntary organisations and individuals alike through:

  • providing networking opportunities
  • examining the issues and developments which impact on you
  • providing targeted and relevant information

To facilitate this “big picture” view we are starting off the day with a roundtable discussion followed by a questions and answers panel session with speakers reflecting the diversity of Community and Voluntary activity. We are also asking the question “do the people have the power?” in our citizens jury slot – highly topical in the run-up to the Local and European elections as well as looking to the future with our final “Next Steps” session.

To end the day, we will be announcing the results of the elections to our Board/Core Group. I am deeply heartened by the range of nominations reflecting as they do the diversity, breadth, energy and commitment of the Community and Voluntary sector and I look forward to hearing who will be joining our ‘Core Group’ as The Wheel moves forward into an exciting future.

Registration in advance is necessary and details are provided on the agenda. I hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity to come together as part of a wider Community and Voluntary Sector and I look forward to seeing you on 20 May.

Deirdre Garvey,
Chief Executive Officer
