1. NEWS AND OVERVIEWS:

National Qualifications Framework
The National Qualifications Authority of Ireland, in association with the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC), the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC), the Conference of Heads of Irish Universities, the Dublin Institute of Technology and the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment launched the publication of a national framework of qualifications. The Framework brings about significant changes in the systems and structures of education and training in Ireland. It is the single entity - nationally and internationally accepted - through which all learning achievements may be measured and related to each other in a coherent way. European Movement Training Courses
The European Movement offers a range of Training Courses on EU-related issues. The presenters strive to equip participants with a knowledge and understanding of the EU and its policy areas through structured training and individual support. Self-Evaluation Tool for Trainers
Trying to deliver a quality learning programme regardless of whether it is a 2-hour workshop or a full time course requires resources and a committed team. The Wheel has collated a Self-Evaluation Tool for training providers to assess how well they are delivering a quality service. 'World Wise' Resource Pack
This Development Education Resource for Adult Learning aims to make the basic link between individuals and communities, no matter where they live and how different their lives are. The pack uses activities and reflections and it was written for adult basic education providers. Direct Payments Schemes for People with Disabilities
This research report explores the development of a direct payments system for disabled people - i.e. giving disabled people the money to enable them to 'buy in' the services they want and need. The National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) 'Skillwords' Pack
This resource pack supports the integration of literacy into vocational training. It provides a set of materials to support the integration of literacy into areas of vocational training. It is primarily intended to be used by tutors, trainers and learners working in areas such as woodwork, catering and horticulture. Literacy Tools website for learning & tuition
The National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) 'Literacy Tools' website, www.literacytools.ie contains exercises to do online and to print out; games and is a great resource for literacy tutors. It is also a useful way to introduce learners to using email and searching for information on the web. You are welcome to try this free website and we would love to get your feedback. White Paper Grants Announced funds have been awarded under two grant schemes: Training and Support Services and Federations, Networks and Umbrella Bodies.

The Department administers a range of second chance education programmes to help unemployed people, lone parents and people with disabilities improve their skills and qualifications.
