FILM MAKER IN RESIDENCE

ARTIST’S BRIEF

Wexford County Council in partnership with St. Michael’s Theatre, New Ross and The Arts Council / An Comhairle Ealaíon invite submissions from Film Makers for a Film Maker in Residence initiative which will run throughout 2005.

Background

In September 2004, St. Michael’s Theatre established two film clubs including a Junior Film Club, Chinês Cine-Club. At the time of its inception, all secondary schools in the area were invited to become members of the Film Club and to participate in the programming of films.

Given the significantly high level of interest among the members, it has been decided to further develop the club through a Film Maker in Residence Project. It is intended that the successful Film Maker will work with a group of young people aged from 13 – 18 years on a weekly basis in the facilitation of a Youth Film Project, which will run for approximately a 35-week period.

Aims of the Film Maker in Residence Project

  • To provide an opportunity to strengthen the base for Youth Arts participation within County Wexford
  • To strengthen the position of film within the context of the County Arts Programme
  • To create increased access to film making
  • To train young people in the art of the film making process
  • To facilitate creativity in young people

Criteria for Selection

  • A relevant third level qualification
  • Previous experience and track record in community / youth / education context
  • Ability to devise and design creative programmes of work
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Recruitment Procedure

The recruitment of a Film Maker in Residence will involve a 2-stage process

Stage 1: Invitation of submission through Open National Competition

Stage 1 submissions should include:

  • A comprehensive CV
  • Samples of previous work e.g. DVD / CD / VHS Video Publications
  • Numbered slides together with a numbered slide list

Statement of Interest – maximum 500 words outlining ideas and possible approaches to the residency

As submissions may be shortlisted on the basis of information supplied, applicants should ensure that information provided is sufficiently comprehensive.

Stage 2: Appointment of Film Maker in Residence

All shortlisted applicants who reach Stage 2 will be invited to attend for an *interview.

Following the interview process, the successful Film Maker will be invited to submit a detailed proposal outlining content, format and schedule of the residency in response to the brief outlined above, detailed budget breakdown detailing contact hours, preparation, research, documentation, meetings, evaluation, materials, equipment, travel, accommodation, subsistence etc.

*Wexford County Council is not responsible for transport costs to attend for interview.

The fee for this residency will be in the region of €14,000.
