Minister for Education & Science, Mary
Hanafin, T.D., was in Killarney today to present certificates
to 31 students at St. Anne’s Adult Education Centre. The
centre is open to everyone aged between 17 and 65 no matter
what their previous education experience has been.
Presenting the adult students with their
certificates Minister Hanafin said “the education programmes
here in St. Anne’s helps students master the basics,
especially reading and writing skills which are so important
to every aspect of our lives. This can lead students to
move on to obtain certification in a number of accredited
programmes, including the Leaving Certificate Applied and many
FETAC programmes.
Your achievement can open the door to a world of
education, further training and employment opportunities, that
might not have been considered possible before. The
certificates that each of you are receiving is recognition of
much hard work and commitment on your behalf to improving your
skills. Your accomplishment has made a great difference to
your lives, your families and the extended community.”
Minister Hanafin praised the great work in adult
education and training being delivered at the centre which is
part of Kerry Education Service. “The ongoing commitment of
the staff at this centre makes St Anne’s another jewel in the
crown of successes overseen by Kerry Education Service.”
The certificates which Minister Hanafin presented
are in recognition of the achievements of the adult students
in the Junior Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied and
FETAC Programmes. The centre currently has a total of 46
adult students enrolled.
During her visit to St Anne’s Minister Hanafin was
shown examples of the students work including the family
learning project “Story Sacks.” “You have all worked so hard
last year and should really be proud of our achievements” said
Minister Hanafin
