Copping On Training Courses

The Copping On training is delivered on a residential basis over 2 days to individuals with responsibility for working with young people and their families, but the training has also been tailored to the specific needs of groups and organisations. We bring together a group of people working in the same community, which represent all the key agencies with responsibility for young people at risk.

Typically this includes:

  • Youthreach
  • Community Training Workshops
  • travellers centres/programmes
  • Gardai
  • probation
  • health board (social workers/community child care )
  • teachers (sometimes)
  • youth service
  • drug services

The training is experiential and participative, providing participants with a forum for networking and an opportunity to identify:

  • methods of co-operation between agencies,
  • discussion and agreement on appropriate methodology and underlying principles in preventative work with young people at risk,
  • enhancing facilitation skills and sharing good practice.

It also provides:

  • an opportunity to experience activities from the resource pack;
  • reflect on ways to adapt the programme to suit varying needs;
  • identify potential issues for staff implementing the programme;
  • an awareness of the need to develop and clarify local policy.

Participants are equipped:

  • with a greater understanding of the Irish legal system;
  • a raised awareness of the profile of young offenders and effective interventions.

The Cost:

Cost of 175 Euros(present rate) per participant, which covers all hotel costs, meals, accommodation, the resource pack. The residential aspect is considered very important, as this facilitates networking, and the development of support structures.

If you or your staff would like to participate in this training, they need to do so as part of a multi- agency group. We require the names and addresses of those wishing to take part from the community you work in. These should include representatives from all key agencies including paid and unpaid workers, voluntary and statutory organisations. (identified above) If you have difficulty identifying such a group, we will support you in doing so.
