  • Mary Keenan reached the final of TG4's Glor Tire, Search for a Country Star last night. Aerach won the final but Mary had a great performance on the night and all throughout the series. Visit the TG4 website to view Glor Tire online.

  • AONTAS (the National Association of Adult Education) have a new festival website up and running at www.adultlearnersfestival.com. The website contains a number of features, including publicity support materials, details on the STAR award nominations, contacts for local links and a map which outlines details on different events taking place during the festival.

  • You are invited to participate in the consultation for the All Ireland Programme for Immigrant Parents (All IPIP). This a 24-month project to develop and disseminate a range of parenting information, training and resources to support immigrant parents and the practitioners who work with them.   • The adjudication process of the National Traveller Art Competition has taken place in the NATC headquarters in Athlone. This year's adjudicators were: Robert Ballagh, one of Ireland's most distinguished artists and designer, Derek Speirs, an accomplished and extremely talented photographer and Patricia Hurl, lecturer in Fine Art in Dublin Institute of Technology. NATC will be in touch with the winners over the next couple of weeks.

  • TG4 has started another season of the country and western talent show Glór Tíre in which host Dáithí Ó Sé gives emerging talent the opportunity to impress judges Shay Healy, John Creedon and Caitríona Ní Shúilleabháin.   • The Youthreach Website new sub-section - WebWheel - is for materials relating specifically to the provision of supports for learners attending Youthreach, Senior Traveller and Community Training Centres. The kinds of support include mentoring, advocacy, guidance, information, counselling, psychological services and provision for special educational needs.

  • Since January, a group of men from Navan Travellers` Workshops have been working hard on building a traditional Traveller barrel top wagon from scratch, using traditional designs.   • A competition was launched across Ireland to find 12 young glamorous women aged 17 to 24 to promote a more positive image of the Traveller community. The group have been posing for the calendar - entitled Beauty has no Boundaries - with the help of some of Ireland's top stylists. The initiative was sponsored by the Voice of the Traveller magazine and was launched recently at the NATC Conference in Maynooth. Calendars are available from NATC for €7.

  • The NYHP and the NYAP have come together to explore the topic of promoting health through the arts. The first year of this joint initiative will involve researching the evidence base for promoting health through the arts and examining the media through which health promotion can be carried out, e.g. drama, music, dance, painting, photography, video etc - click here for more information.
