• In 2006, 31% of children lived in families where the mother had a third-level degree in comparison to 1% of Traveller children and 6% of children lived in families where the mother had either no formal education or primary education only in comparison to 59% of Traveller children. • The All Ireland Traveller Health Study is the first systematic study of Travellers’ health in 23 years. The final report of the The All Ireland Traveller Health Study was published recently and is available to download at pavee.ie/ourgeels.

• The Tánaiste, Mary Coughlan TD, has announced plans to improve literacy and numeracy in schools - sweeping reforms to teacher education courses, increased time for literacy and numeracy in primary and post-primary schools, and a significant extension in the use of assessment and testing in reading and mathematics. • The website www.travellerheritage.ie - the first online photo archive of Irish Travellers - now has several new sections including Music and Song; Research; Travellers Talking; and Culture and History.

• A repeat of Written Off will be broadcast on RTÉ One Television on Sunday mornings at 8.45am from the 18th of July. Written Off follows the journey of eight people from very different backgrounds as they take the first steps in addressing the various personal challenges they face with literacy skills.
