of Study: Assessment of the nature and extent of drug misuse among
the Traveller Community
The National Advisory Committee on
Drugs (NACD) in conjunction with a Research Advisory Group made up of
Traveller organisations and representatives from the Traveller Health
Advisory Committee and the Department of Health and Children propose to
undertake the above research study.

Project Objectives: To examine
the nature and extent of drug misuse among the Traveller Community; identify
patterns of problematic drug misuse; and recommend solutions that will
help deal with the harmful health problems caused by drug misuse.
How will the project be undertaken?
Information will be collected from various sources:
- Examining data and information
currently available.
- One-to-one interviews and group
discussions with Travellers and people who work with the Traveller Community
What each Traveller Group/Organisation
will need to do?
Arrange venues and times to run group discussions, and recruit groups
of Travellers to participate in the discussions. Each organisation will
be paid a small fee to help organise
the discussion.
