Mission Statement: A Centre of Education for Travellers, which facilitates life-long learning and training through an intercultural approach. Aims:
History: The Letterkenny Senior Traveller Training Centre began in 1983 as a joint venture between Co Donegal Vocational Committee and FÁS. It operated in four other locations before finding a permanent home in a purpose built centre ten years later. This was made possible by securing a loan from the then North Western Health Board (HSE North West) with support from Donegal County Council and FÁS. The centre was officially opened in 1992 by then Taoiseach, Albert Reynolds. Two extensions followed in 1990 and 1999. Today it is one of a number of education and training centres under the remit of Co Donegal VEC's Adult Education Service and is housed, along with the Letterkenny Youthreach programme in St Fiachra's Training Centre. John McGee was the Director of the programme from 1984 until 2005, with Vivienne Doherty taking over this role in September 2005. The STTC was the first STTC in the country to qualify under the FETAC Quality Assurance System and has recently completed its centre development plan under the Quality Framework Initiative covering 2006-2009.
