The Tralee Senior Traveller Education CentreContact Details: Patricia Mc Grath (Director) Mission Statement Our mission is to improve the quality of life of our students, in a climate of mutual respect, by meeting their evolving education needs. Background The Tralee Senior Traveller Education Centre was set up in 2002 in response to the educational needs of marginalised people in North Kerry. It operates from two sites: Causeway and Listowel and is an integrated centre i.e. it accommodates both travellers and non-travellers. It is a 45 student centre and offers a range of subjects leading to FETAC qualifications, Junior Certificate and ECDL qualifications. It is hoped to offer the Leaving Certificate Applied in September 2007. Purpose of The Tralee Senior Traveller Education Centre
Staff The programme is managed by a full-time director. There are twelve teachers: two are full-time, ten part time, and a part-time secretary. The programme is a full-time two year programme, with an extension for some students. Subjects offered include: Literacy, Numeracy, Personal Development, I.T., Health Related Fitness, Art, and Crafts. The programme is funded by Kerry Education Services (VEC). Remuneration Students receive a weekly training allowance and childcare payments are
available for pre-school children. |
