The ethos of the Centre since its establishment in 1979 has always aimed to resource the total Finglas Traveller community and as a result a number of projects have developed. These activities are resourced by the Finglas Traveller Support Group which also acts as a lobbying body mainly in the area of accommodation and education. Initiatives include:
There is a major drive to encourage young Travellers to avail of second level education and to support them with homework and social clubs. A significant number of local Travellers are accessing third level education through NUI Maynooth. St. Joseph’s co-sponsored and initiated the start up and development of the Traveller Women’s Knitting Enterprise Project, now operating as Ganzee Knitwear. In 1985, the Boys Training Centre was established and offers a similar range of programmes. St. Josephs Training
