The Centre:
Ballygar Adult Training Centre is a 24 place part time centre opening
five days a week for thirty five hours. Morning Course runs from 9.30am
to 1.30pm: Afternoon Course from 2.00pm to 5.00pm. Male trainees range
in years from sixteen to twenty and female from seventeen to fifty one.
Our Director is Dympna Collett.
Our aim is to provide the student/trainee with the opportunity to develop
his or her potential to the full in an environment that encourages respect
for each other, staff and the local community.
Community Participation
Christmas 2002 we organised a Bazaar where quilts, Christmas decorations,
cushions, crochet garments, candle holders, mirrors and many other items
made by the trainees were sold to the public.
The trainees in the centre played a huge part in Ballygar's preparation
in hosting the Afghanistan Special Olympics team in June, 2003. This was
a great honour for the town and when asked by local committee the trainees
gladly made flags to decorate the town. Trainees worked as a team to produce
a magnificent wall-hanging for the "Share the Feeling" art exhibition.
The wall hanging was designed so that everyone could share the feeling,
including the visually impaired. Much praise was given to the piece of
work by the media and public.
News item:
Currently, our Director, Dympna Collett is out on sick leave and Honor
Rattigan is acting for her. We wish Dympna a speedy recovery and look
forward to her return in the near future.
