Art in the Training
Centre
Art classes
take place through out the week. The Art Teacher Davina Walsh works with 3
groups of mixed ages. Students are offered FETAC courses suitable to their
artistic and educational ability. Emphasis is placed on the improvement of
basic drawing and painting techniques i.e. Line, Tone, Shape, Form,
Texture and Colour. Each student is challenged to research, develop and
produce work to the best of their ability.

Work has gone
beyond the art room and onto the streets, so to speak, with the centres
huge involvement in the Special Olympics. 42 draped banners of Green,
White and Gold were made to decorate the streets of Ballinrobe. Our
greatest achievement this year was in the making of the Ballinrobe/Clonbur
representative flag, which was designed and co-ordinated by Davina Walsh
and made by the students. Four of whom, with the flag, lead the Ballinrobe
Olympic parade. It was seen world wide as it followed the Algerians team
during the opening ceremony for the Special Olympics. This was, without a
doubt, a very proud moment for all the staff and students at the centre.

All these classes are under the guidance of cookery teacher Joanne Morley.
